The Value of an Object
It’s a striking concept—how much value is placed in a certain object, and is this object in our possession? Is it of value with a high list price or material value, is it sentimental, or both?
I recently completed a writing assignment for a class I am taking, and the prompt was to hold an object of value in your hands, and just let the emotions, memories, or feelings flood back into your mind and flow on to paper. At first I struggled a bit, as I don’t typically view myself as one who places such value in objects, I place more value on memories, experiences, and people…or so I thought.
I scanned my immediate vicinity and my eyes locked on to my Harry Potter book series perched upon my bookshelf. My mind started to flood with memories of my mother and her rushing to the store to grab me the latest copy to read when they released (or sometimes before, if she scored an early release copy). This was the series that sparked my lifelong love of reading for pleasure and my mom was that catalyst. This thought brought another question to the forefront, “Why do I not have any photos of my mother up?” For the longest time, I couldn’t look at a photo of her, or listen to home videos with her voice, because I would transform into a complete sobbing mess…but am I stronger these days? Am I capable of honoring her in a meaningful way, just by living my life for the both of us, the infinity and beyond?
Something to think about.
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella
Brandy is…and will always be, my Cinderella!
This movie has everything from spectacular singing, a great cast, a diverse ensemble and production!
Whitney Houston!!!!!
Whoopi Goldberg!!!!!!
ICONS only.
If you have not seen this film, I highly encourage a watch!
Here are two of my standout performances (please forgive the bootleg videos-it’s available on Disney+):
Ugly Betty Nostalgia-Rewatch
Deep into an Ugly Betty rewatch…and by deep…there are only 10 episodes of the series left for me to devour. Such an iconic show, so camp, may or may not have set back gay rights…or progressed them…still unsure.
If you have not seen this show, go back and watch!!

Evil Eye by Etaf Rum
This book was a library find! It was powerful, heartbreaking, and really grasped the severity of generational trauma. Yara is a brave Palestinian role model. This book has it all: academic politics, generational trauma, fighting xenophobia, family values, glimpses of Palestinian culture, a gay subplot, a strong female heroine.
