Alright, Hoppy belated Easter!
Hope you had a good one, whether you were deep in family stuff or just enjoying the excuse to participate in capitalistic Easter (because, let's be real, the candy and bunny paraphernalia are top-tier).
It’s giving carrot-core!
Is a phrase, I may have said once or twice this year.
Have you heard of Waffle Wednesday or Wednesday Waffle? (Can’t fully remember the order of this alliterative phrase)
Either way…
I have a dear Bookstagram friend, who does this live video every Wednesday and honestly, it’s such a great concept. So great that…
I Googled for the origin story.
So the Wednesday Waffle, is a quick video, voice note, or message to your “people”. This can be friends, family, the group chat—just to catch up.
Doesn’t have to be this big back-and-forth convo, just a little “here’s what’s up in my world” kind of vibe. Like those recaps at the top of Glee episode’s week-to-week where they go…here’s what you missed on (someone shouts in a high pitch) GLEE!
It’s pretty genius, and I love the idea of applying the concept to this newsletter.
This newsletter is a way to get my written word, audio, or video out to you, my friends and gracious readers in a way that is low-stakes and non-urgent, but also personal.
This waffle works for all my friends scattered across the many time zones, and the friends who are knee-deep in raising the next generation of children, or climbing corporate America, or saving lives as Doctors.
The waffle is great when hours-long calls just are not feasible, and traffic is insane on the 405 and 2 hours each way on the road is far too much.
Anyway, it feels like a really nice, low-pressure way to connect, and I figured since you all who subscribe mean so much, I'd borrow the spirit of it for a quick life update, and who knows, it might be a more regular occurrence.
That being said…can we take a moment to accept that fact that Week 16/52…has just finished…like…how?
It’s wild.
My Waffle Updates for the Week:
Still Buzzing (and slightly recovering) from Seattle: Came back from a trip with friends feeling SO energized by being somewhere slightly-new, soaking up those gorgeous natural landscapes (seriously, wow), and just feeling filled up by loving friendships. Of course, my body immediately decided it needed a rest and relaxation the second I landed back in Los Angeles, but rest well earned. I am so grateful to have such kind and supportive and loving angels for friends. What a blessing.

Easter Feasting & Family Fun: Jumped into Easter weekend and celebrated my brother's birthday a bit early. Lots of laughs, the usual comedy that comes with family gatherings. It made me feel super grateful again that I actually live close-ish to family and get to see the people I love on the semi-regular. Followed, naturally, by trying very hard not to eat my literal weight in delicious carbs and desserts during the actual Easter feast. The struggle was intense, folks.

The Little Things: Managed to get out for a much-needed hike with my brother, savored at least one perfect matcha latte (a necessity), and dove into a new book rec from my gorgeous friend, Josephine– "Margo's Got Money Trouble" (thanks, J!). And yes, obviously maintained my cultural obligations by keeping up with Drag Race and RHOBH. Priorities.
marco (me), matcha, and margo (book) Friendship Fuel: Had a great catch-up with awesome friends over Mexican food later in the week. Just... really good hangs:)
Meta Thoughts: Trying, as always, not to get totally sucked into the endless scroll void of the internet. It's a process! But honestly, between the travel high, the family time, the friend dates... just feeling really aware and honored to have these people and experiences in my life. Like, being able to travel, having a community, seeing family – none of it is taken for granted over here.
So yeah, that's the download! Think of this as my little Waffle Wednesday on a Monday…lol. classic me, dispatch to you all. A quick, casual "hi, this is what's been happening." Hope you're all doing okay and finding your own ways to connect this week.
Chat soon,
Your Friendly Obsession (Marco)!
Haha you convinced me with the Glee recap reference. Those were really good!!
