a glimpse at the labubu lifestyle || the joys of capitalism
Labubu
The Monsters
My growing family.
The thrill of opening packs and succumbing to addiction.
Navigating the throes of capitalism.
Rationing money going into my savings account and allotting it for a cheap thrill.
Digging deeper, asking myself, How do they make you feel?
Let’s back up a bit to answer that one…
When I was little, I didn’t get to play with dolls.
Being a gay boy in a heteronormative world, the elusive Barbie escaped my grasps for decades.
I once received a GI Joe dupe from my godfather one year, but it didnt hit the same.
So when the Labubu craze hit my doorstep, I lept.
It’s not a cheap hobby (read: $$ price tag).
Pop Mart is addictive AF (my friends and I often gripe about how little restraint we have in pursuit of our precious furry friends).
But I love the childhood nostalgia of it all, a childhood I never had.
The ability to play with dolls, and furry little monsters with cute names and vibrant hues.
Rubbing their fuzzy bellies.
Frenzied over it being a Labubu or a Lafufu (fake).
Connecting with people of all ages.
Going to stores I would probably never go to just to procure one, shout out to my local smoke shop, Sunny Hills, you the real one.
Whether they are a recession indicator (as several buzz articles and videos proclaim) or not, whether I am just a mindless sheep following the herd, I don’t really give a rip, because they make me happy, and happiness is one of those things I so desperately need in my life right now.
Are you a Labubu freak like me? Or do you detest everything about them? Let me know…
Labubus are growing on me but I don't have the patience or money for this hobby 😂
They’re so cute!
