The whole “missing stuff from family and friends” is tough. But have you texted / called any family and friends lately? Maybe double down on those relationships, and see where that goes. Then eventually DM some friends your number and tell them to message you stuff.

Your sanity and mental health is important! Don’t just hand it over to Meta for some cute memes! Haha

Your sanity and mental health is important! Don’t just hand it over to Meta for some cute memes!- that really hit me… and to your point I can make a larger effort to connect off app vs on app… and for connections that are friendly on app, I can try and make the jump off app as well

Yeah, some people just want to STAY ON THE APP. And I dunno,.. their loss, man! I got enough great people to talk to on the phone and swap emails and texts with, ya know?

Okay, I just read through this and wow! it’s disheartening to hear how “big tech” has this iron grip on billions!

Removing myself from the “Metaverse” has been something I’ve been considering for awhile now. I hope that you find what works best for you and your mental health. Social media is so draining and hard. I feel like having a conversation about healthy habits in regards to it should happen more often then it does. So I appreciate you sharing your story. 🤍

Thank you so much, I feel like I’m actively monitoring how I feel on IG and FB and what content or interactions bring value to my life and not just a dopamine hit. I’m very research brain, so I’m going to track some things and see how it goes

Ouff I feel this one. Especially the part about spending so much time despite self imposed time limits 😬 I’ve wondered if there can be one allotted time per week to catch up. But then how do you keep yourself from the rabbit hole?

That’s a wonderful suggestion. Almost like a “cheat meal” of sorts, where I allow myself to just binge content and then that’s it. It’s a slippery slope of sorts, but can be regimented I think (or hope)

I'm inspired to try the same.

I have found that using Instagram/Facebook on a desktop can help with staying in touch with people without having the app right at your fingertips on your phone :) or any app really besides tiktok I think. Would love to know what ends up working best for you in the future!

Sully this is a great suggestion. It’s more of a chore to go to the computer and login and click around then just at my fingertips. I definitely think that could be a great change of pace for me.
